More about history
The tiles on the Floor remember at the time this was a street instead of a building. When the street was spanned, a stable settled in this building. De high green cabinet, where nowadays our products are exhibitioned was used for storing the saddles and tack.
The recent facade is from 1889. The van Wees family took over the place from distillery 'de Admiraal', where mostly genevers was made. The brand “Admiraal” was used for a while in the tastingroom. The antique Advocatmill and potstills are the silent reminders of those days, as are the various cooper and distilling tools all around the place.
The rare ‘trouserpomp’ behind the bar, was used for supply and drainage of water from the canals to cool at the distillation proces. It was made in 1868. Only 2 of these pomps are left in the Netherlands. One in the distilling museum at Schiedam and ours at the Herengracht 319 in Amsterdam.
